About Me

Ronni Butts is a reporter based in North Carolina. This summer, Ronni covered legislation, midterm campaigns, immigration and healthcare as a politics intern at The Raleigh News & Observer. She is also a member of The New York Times Corps mentorship program.

Last summer, Ronni also interned at The N&O as a news and politics intern through the McClatchy HBCU Development Program. She is also an alumna of the 2025 POLITICO Summer Journalism Institute.

A rising senior at North Carolina Central University, Ronni was a co-editor-in-chief at the Campus Echo for the 2025-2026 academic year. There, Ronni led the newsroom in weekly trainings, created the newsroom’s first handbook and social media kit and managed its social media accounts.

She is also a national member of the National Association of Black Journalists.

Ronni is earning a bachelor’s degree in political science with concentrations in civic engagement, public policy and global politics and a minor in mass communication.

Ronni is looking for full-time reporting roles after graduation in May 2027.
